HAVING A HEATHEN CHRISTMAS

Bah, humbug!

Christmas, eh? Tricky cove. Especially for us atheists. Yes, despite what you might have assumed reading the previous blog (that was about something entirely different), I am a non-believer.

Actually, It’s not Christmas I dislike; just the way it starts in October – instead of about now, a fortnight before Christmas Day, which would be closer to the mark.

I learned early on after my conversion from C of E how to cope with Christmas. I celebrate it as the pagan mid-winter festival it once was.

The warmth of the family; culinary and imbibing treats; thoughtful gifts. Just a little stocking filler that makes you smile can make Christmas special.

For lots of smiles – a bloody good laugh even – try a book called When It Comes To The Crunch (www.huckbooks.co.uk). I can heartily recommend it. But then, I am in it.

Sorry ... I've gone and done it again, haven't I?
