What a success selling off the railways was, eh? God help us. And all those passengers paying through the nose for the privilege of being stranded over the New Year.
I don’t want to go all political, but … there are some things that should belong to the nation. A national rail network is one of them (water and power are two others, but more of that some other time).
I’ve even heard Tory stalwarts bemoaning the Thatcher rail sell-off; or giveaway, as I prefer to call it.
Mrs Thatcher, as I prefer to call her, and every surviving member of her government should be made to travel long distances by train every day; even if they’ve got nowhere to go.
That would soon see a smart redistribution of wealth.
