Shucks, I missed it. I failed to do a blog yesterday bemoaning the fact that we English don’t celebrate St George’s Day in any meaningful way.
Some say this oversight proves we are not patriotic enough. Idiots. It’s because we are so secure in our patriotism (the love that doesn’t need to speak its name) that we don’t have to go on and on about it.
If it’s in your nature to go on and on about it, you aren’t a proper Englishman or woman. That’s not the way we do things.
I trust someone will pass on this observation to those people who devised the ‘Englishness’ test for our new wave of immigrants.
No, sorry – there’s no need. Gordon Brown is obviously an avid reader, because yesterday he followed my advice and decided to do something about his 10p tax cock-up. I’m sure he’ll get somebody on to it.
