One story brought a tear to my eye as I watched the TV news last night.
It wasn’t the story of the earthquake disaster in China, or the continuing saga of the Burmese military rulers trying to ignore the floating bodies in the aftermath of the cyclone there.
It was the story of 16-year-old Jimmy Mizen, an innocent abroad who was murdered when he went to a bakery for a sandwich. A bright young lad who should have had a glittering future. He came from a good and loving family; he had lots of friends. One day he might well have done something to make them even prouder. Who knows what he might have achieved?
But no. His life was snuffed out by some low-life twat who thought he was being big, thought he was proving something, by taking a life. Any life would have done. It just happened to be Jimmy’s.
What sort of family did he have? Did he have any proper friends? What has happened to this country when not just low-life twats but vicious low-life twats with barely a brain cell are taking lives with impunity seemingly every other day?
If Gordon Brown wants to do something useful with the extra cash he has acquired by scrapping the 10p income tax threshold, he should institute a zero-tolerance police squad in every city and major town to target gangs who are making a mockery of the sanctity of life.
They should also target the parents/guardians of those loitering with intent and weapons.
Let’s get tough on the murderous twats, tough on the causes of murderous twats.
